* Finished my 3rd novel, “The Abstraction of Arrow’s Way” which was hailed as “better than the first two” by critics far and wide, well, at least by Dan
It’s November! And that means one thing - time to write a novel. It’s my third year doing National Novel Writing Month - known as Nanowrimo. I’m right on track with my word count despite some challenges. About five days into the month, I started having pain in my leg. I thought it was brought on by sitting with my laptop so much. Turns out, it was shingles and it HURTS!!! But, if that is the only thing I have to deal with, I’m pretty lucky. Here’s to 10,000 more words before I have completed a third novel that will never see the light of day after December 1st!
It’s been a long couple of days for me. I had my appendix removed on Wednesday just for the heck of it. Actually, I was in a lot of pain at 3:30 AM on Wednesday and went to the emergency room where they strongly recommended that I have it removed. I took their recommendation and have been spending most of my time sitting on the couch since then. I left the hospital on my birthday. Dan made me an incredible chocolate cake and bought me the first season of “Meerkat Manor“, so things are looking up!
Annie Wendt, epidemiologist for the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department, released a data book this month. The Kalamazoo Gazette has covered it very nicely a couple of times (including this story).

It’s the day after Christmas and Dan and I are back home after spending the weekend at Mom & Dad Mervak’s house in Royal Oak. The Latham Christmas happened a week ago since Alison was in town from L.A. I posted pictures from both family celebrations in the photo gallery.

We celebrated Dan’s Birthday (12/15) with a pizza party this year. Dan was both the party’s honoree and the primary cook. He churned out eight homemade pizzas with help from everyone. Here are a few pictures from the party.
